Vehicle Rental INSURANCE INFORMATION
How it works and your options
1) Physical Damage to the Vehicle you are Driving
This covers the cost to fix the vehicle from things like hitting objets such as rocks, posts, curbs, and walls. In more serious cases this covers roll overs and collisions with other vehicles. It also covers things like theft, fire, vandalism, weather damages, hitting an animal. This is also know as “Comp/Collision” coverage.
The amount to repair the vehicle can range from a few hundred dollars all the way up to the full replacement value.
2) Liability Insurance
This is coverage for damage to other property or injury to other people. Also known as 3rd party liability. This insurance provides compensation if you are at fault for an accident and there is damage to another persons property (car, fence, mailbox, house, etc) or another person is injured. These claims can be very high as it depends on the value of the property or medical costs.

What are my Insurance options?
-
Many personal policies will offer coverage for normal rental cats, but be careful here and don’t just assume you are covered for everything. Renting a camper with us is not like going to Hertz.
If you want to use your own policy, we highly recommend you call your agent and ask them specific questions:
Do you have Physical Damage (comp/collision) coverage for the camper you are renting? Modified 4×4s and campervans are sometimes treated differently and not covered.
If you do have comp/collision for a rental, do you have coverage for the full value of the camper? Our vehicles cost as much as $100,000 and you don’t want to only be covered for the value of your car.
Does my liability insurance transfer over when I am renting a camper?
We can provide additional vehicle information if your agent needs that, contact us. When you talking to them, it’s a good time to remind yourself what your deductible is.
If you are using your own policy, we will ask you to write down your insurance company and policy number on the rental agreement so have that information with you.
If your personal policy does not cover damage to our camper and/or liability for 3rd party damages, we have options for that below. It is not uncommon that customers will have liability coverage that transfer but need to purchase physical coverage for our campers.

You can purchase supplemental liability insurance (SLI) directly with our insurance provider. It is called “Supplemental” because it provides higher coverage than the state minimums.

You will purchase this before arriving and the details for how to do that can be found here: https://www.tacrentals.com/sli

We offer a few protection packages so you know exactly how much you will be out of pocket if damage does happen to our vehicle. We will make a claim on your behalf with our commercial policy and it will cover up to the full value of the camper. Most of our vehicles are valued over $80,000.
Refer to the graphic below for the protection packages available. In the reservation process, you will be able add the coverage level you want.

Frequent Insurance Questions
-
Technically no, but don’t let this be you. The main things to know are that:
You are financially responsible for damage or injury from you driving a vehicle. If your personal auto policy denies coverage, you personally are on the hook and those can be some huge numbers.
We do not have to check you have adequate coverage. We are sending you out with the minimum legal requirements but those are extremely low.
Every State has minimum financial responsibility requirements to operate a vehicle on their roads and highways. Titus Adventures has the required minimum liability insurance to protect us—and to allow the van to be legally operated on the roads or highways. However, even the liability insurance that covers us is only minimum liability and may not cover you (depending on the state). Any damage you cause to others may also be subject to our right to “subrogation” which means you could still be held legally liable and required to pay us back (or our insurer) for any damages you cause to others. Under the federal “Graves Amendment” 49 U.S.C.A. § 30106, as a company engaged in the business of leasing or renting vehicles, when there is no negligence or criminal malfeasance on Titus Adventure’s part, we cannot be held “vicariously liable” (meaning responsible) for your negligence.
We do not require that you purchase any insurance, but that does not mean you are protected from risks. Unless you have the proper insurance or purchase the proper insurance, you may be held liable for not only damage to yourself or others or their property, but also for damages you cause to our campers. Again, we highly recommend that you call your insurer and then consider purchasing one of our options that will help protect you.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) provides coverage for damage to the vehicle, protects your personal auto policy, and offers peace of mind. It’s not insurance—instead, it’s a contract directly with Titus Adventures. As long as the vehicle is operated in accordance with the rental agreement, the CDW limits your financial responsibility for collision-related damage to the amount of the selected package’s deductible.
Windshield Chip Repair: we waive the deductible and you have $0 out of pocket cost if we are able to repair small chips or cracks (less than 1”)
Full Windshield Replacement : we waive the deductible and you have $0 out of pocket cost if we have to replace the entire windshield. Windshields are usually $800-$1500 to replace.
Tire Coverage: Covers accidental tire damage from road debris or blowouts. Damage due to racing or reckless use is excluded. We use expensive All-Terrain tires that are $200-$300 each. On our 4×4s, if one tires is replaced, often all four tires need to be replaced do match tread wear.
Interior Protection: Covers accidental damage to interior fixtures, upholstery, or cabinetry. Does not cover smoking-related damage, purposeful vandalism, or damage due to improper use.
Things that are not covered: Damage that occurs while violating the Rental Agreement—including improper use, rock crawling, or driving while intoxicated—will void this coverage. CDW does not cover vandalism, third-party liability, or personal belongings.
Damage caused by negligence—including, but not limited to, improper use of pop-top mechanisms, using improper fuel, accidents involving drive-throughs, and damage from low-clearance parking garages—is also excluded.
Note: The Collision Damage Waiver is not legally required to drive

This can be an option but you will want to call them and ask the same questions listed above for using your own policy.
Most international credit cards do not provide rental car insurance
-
We have found most of our overseas guests do not have coverage that carries over from their personal policy. We strongly recommend purchasing the liability coverage and one of our CDW packages to ensure you have a stress-free adventure.
-
You do not have to make all the choices at the time of booking.
You will be presented with the option to add the CDW package at the time of booking but we can add that on later once you have more time to figure out what coverage you want.
The supplemental liability insurance is purchased directly with our carrier (MBA insurance) and you will receive a link of how to do that after booking and again one week before your trip.
If you are purchasing a policy, that needs to be done before the trip starts.
-
This is the minimum liability coverage to legally drive. The requirements vary state to state.
For Colorado they are
$25,000/person $50,000/accident liability for bodily injury
$15,000 property damage
This means if you are at fault for an accident and damage another person’s $50,000 vehicle, the base policy will only cover $15,000 and you are personally responsible for the rest, The amount it pays for medical injuries is very low too.
This is why we highly recommend having coverage well beyond the legal minimum.
-
If you are traveling with a group and plan to use your own policy, make sure each potential driver has checked to make sure their personal coverage is adequate.
If you are purchasing SLI and/or the CDW, all drivers (above the min age) listed on the rental agreement will be covered. This can sometimes be the best for large groups.

The deductible (or often called Excess in other countries) is the amount you are out of pocket if you are fault for an accident.
