CAMP PROVISIONS

Food Preparation and Packing Your Cooler

While out in the backcountry, food preparation can be challenging. We recommend doing as much prep work before your adventure as possible. Not only will this save space in your cooler but it will make life at camp dramatically more convenient. Once your food is prepped and ready to go, it’s time to pack your cooler. While both food preparation and packing a cooler are seemingly straight forward tasks, our partners at Fresh Off the Grid have created an awesome guide with some tips and tricks we always use on our own adventures.

Quick and Easy Car Camping Meals

Great for quick weekend trips, larger groups and people that want to spend more time adventuring and less time at camp. However, we believe that quick and easy doesn’t have to mean bland meals. Here are some ideas we like that will power your adventure while remaining simple and convenient.

  • French Toast (syrup, yogurt, fruit)

  • Breakfast burritos with eggs, tortillas, cheese, pre-cooked bacon

  • Oatmeal with nuts and dried fruit

  • Granola with fruit

Lunch

  • Sandwiches (cold cuts, BLT, PB&J)

  • Bagels, cream cheese and smoked salmon

  • Wraps

  • Cheese, crackers, and salami

  • Hummus, pita, baby carrots & dried fruit

Dinner

  • Grilling: hamburgers, \hotdogs, brats, steaks. add peppers and onions for veggies.

  • Tuna mac and cheese (add dried veggies too)

  • Cashew/peanut noodles with veggies & chicken packs

ABOUT OUR CHEF

From weekday cooking with kids to gourmet backcountry meals, Victoria has a recipe for it all. She loves cooking and eating well without breaking the bank. She shared that passion while working as an Americorps for Cooking Matters in Denver, teaching cooking and nutrition classes to low income families. She is all about easy but healthy food and has a blog with weekly meal plans from recipes tested out the week before. Check it out here.

Her favorite food is ice cream believe it or not, specifically Ben and Jerry’s since she grew up on it as a Vermont native.
