“Over and Up We Go”

Last year one of our customers rented a Titus Land Cruiser with a goal that would make most first-timers sweat: 4 Colorado mountain passes in 3 days. He wasn't a seasoned overlander. He was someone who wanted to get up and get movin', which is exactly why he named his new YouTube channel @GetOutGrit. By the end of the trip he'd knocked out 5 passes, made a 2-part video series, and proved his own point.

Day one

Mosquito Pass

He tackled the hardest pass first. Mosquito Pass is narrow, rocky, and technical in spots, the kind of route that tests a driver and a vehicle in equal measure. Watching him work through it in Part 1 is a good reminder that the Land Cruiser is built for exactly this. He came out the other side with his nerves intact and a story worth telling.

Day two

Cottonwood, Independence, Kebler and a Bonus Pass

Part 2 backs off the intensity without losing the payoff. Cottonwood Pass kicked things off, an iconic, winding climb and the highest paved road in the country to cross the Continental Divide. From there he dropped onto Kebler Pass, a dirt road with zero technical demands and some of the best aspen color in the state, and he caught it right as the groves were turning. He closed things out on Independence Pass, paved and easy, with views that do all the work for you.

Then, on the drive back into Denver, he took a last minute detour to enjoy Loveland Pass for a bonus. 5 passes, 2 days, 1 rig.

The one snag

He'll be the first to tell you that finding a place to camp caught him off guard. It's a good reminder for anyone planning a similar trip: if you're not sure where you'll land for the night, ask us before you go. Scouting campgrounds and dispersed camping options is part of what we do.
